Numbers 17: 1 – 10 (NKJV)

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to the children of Israel, and get from them a rod from each father’s house, all their leaders according to their fathers’ houses—twelve rods. Write each man’s name on his rod. And you shall write Aaron’s name on the rod of Levi. …… And it shall be that the rod of the man whom I choose will blossom; thus I will rid Myself of the complaints of the children of Israel, which they make against you.” …… Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses went into the tabernacle of witness, and behold, the rod of Aaron, of the house of Levi, had sprouted and put forth buds, had produced blossoms and yielded ripe almonds. Then Moses brought out all the rods from before the Lord to all the children of Israel; and they looked, and each man took his rod. And the Lord said to Moses, “Bring Aaron’s rod back before the Testimony, to be kept as a sign against the rebels, …… Thus did Moses; just as the Lord had commanded him, so he did.

Key Phrase: The sign that silences the enemy

When the voices from the enemy’s camp is loud, it is difficult to focus on the work God has given us to do. These voices distract, they confuse, they even affect our confidence, preventing us from raising our heads in public.

In the account in Numbers 17, the voices were loud, very loud. They challenged the authority of Aaron as a priest and God needed to send a strong message to silence them. God said, “get a rod from each father’s house“, 12 rods, old sticks used for shepherding, dry and devoid of life. But God put life in the rod of Aaron and it Sprouted and put forth buds, had produced blossoms and yielded ripe almonds.

When God wants to silence our enemies, He does a thing that confounds the world. He gives us a testimony that immobilizes every distractor and shows that we are His own. This is the kind of testimonies we need in our lives today.

Father, arise on behalf of your children and save us from every device of the enemy. Lord, for every assignment you have given us, grant us grace to complete it without distraction. Mostly Lord, I pray, for every voice raised against us, against your authority in our lives, bring forth an unexplainable testimony, a mouth shutting testimony, In Jesus name.
