Luke 15:11-24 (NKJV)
And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’
Key Phrase: God has a soft spot for humility
A familiar parable. This child was renegade, impatient, discontent, restless, unsettled, wasteful, insensitive you name it. He lived large, a man under no authority, choosing his own path, rejecting the voices of reasoning…. until everything spiralled to a halt.
At last on his knees, humbled and longing for the food of swines, it hit him!. “I will arise and go to my father“
You see, Our Father is very loving and wants us home. He has enough room for every humble and obedient child, such become sons (Gal 4:6-7) and earn the right to call Him Abba father.
The Lord is reminding us this season, that He is waiting for us to reach the end of our rope and fall on our knees to reconsider our ways. He is waiting with open hands to welcome us back home. He will put our renegade behaviour behind and consider only our humility and obedience.
He never left and is always waiting to welcome son’s and daughter’s back home.
Father, please uproot every spirit of rebellion from our midst. Lord, for every time we have acted in our own understanding, believing only in our intellect and ability – have mercy. Mostly Lord, I pray that for everyone on their knees asking for forgiveness, please take us back, restore and lift us up. In Jesus name.
