Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do,forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. NKJV Phil 3:13-14.
Inspired by the Exodus.
As I watch both hands of the clock make their way to 12 midnight on the eve of my last birthday, I am filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. As I close my eyes to reflect, my mind does a flash back to how the Lord has been good through all the ages….like a dream…I’m in a strange place and all I see is people, thousands and thousands of people. All I can hear is voices raised high in singing ‘ who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders’.
I am struggling to know where I am but I can’t stop, the crowd is moving like a mob, stopping to ask questions could lead to one being trampled upon, so I move with the crowd until I see a small outcrop which I quickly climb upon.
What I see is incredulous….behind the crowd of people is a mighty body of water, an ocean or sea and on its banks were dead bodies scattered everywhere, chariots dead horses. One could still see some debris floating on the water , the bodies were clad in armours and from the sophisticated weaponry scattered on the beach, I quickly deduced that these were soldiers of a great army. They must have had no idea what hit them.
I turned and looked ahead…There is a woman with a timbrel leading the singing, the women were about her dancing with Joy “The horse and rider hath he thrown into the sea”.
It finally drops, I’m in the midst of the isrealites after the red sea crossing! Behind us are chapters of hardship, fear and lack of progress which God has firmly shut just as He shut the read sea over the problems of His children. God has closed the old chapters of every sorrow and evil that is behind me.
Ahead is promise, a good and fertile land, a place of provision and good health. It may be a long journey ahead, but I know that through out I will never lack anything good.
I know this story very well, and total obedience is required going forward – it can’t be business as usual, and the outcome is a testimony of victory!
As I return to today, I look for my tambourine because I am feeling a praise coming up. I was there with miriam and co and felt the pure joy of deliverance. God has been good!…through the ages He has been faithful, fighting my battles and preserving me till today. Today, I face forward with great expectations, my tomorrow is secure in His hands.
