Genesis 15:22-26 NKJV
So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah. And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” So he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet.
Key Phrase: Inexplicable sweetness
Mara(h), bitterness. There are certain circumstances in life that leave a bitter taste in one’s mouth. This is what Naomi experienced that she chose to change her name to Mara in Ruth 1:20 “Do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me“.
Bitter circumstances can make one loose zeal, loose focus, loose hope. It can make one full of regret and despair. But whatever happens, we must never loose sight that God is the master strategist.
In our nuggets for the week, the Isrealites couldn’t drink the water, for it was bitter. While they cried in despair, God intervened in an inexplicable way and turned the bitter waters sweet. Naomi, which we earlier referenced, though in despair, didn’t loose sight of God, she trusted and followed His leading and bitterness turned sweet through God’s inexplicable and miraculous intervention.
I pray this week, that by His inexplicable ways, every bitterness we experience will be made sweet.
Father, we ask for your everlasting love and inexplicable power. Lord, thank you because there is nothing too difficult for you to do. Most of all Lord, because in your time you make all things beautiful (Eccl 3:11), we ask that you also make all things sweet in our lives. In Jesus name. Amen
